Ok…forget my rule about never posting about Young Life again….it seems that I can’t seem to escape the fact, that this blog seems to get most of the hits and comments concerning my thoughts on Young Life. If you read this blog and could care less, then go back to your coffee and I’ll catch you on another post.

For the many others that stop by, only for information on Young Life, welcome.

I’ll continue to post over at Young Life Watch, but will reblog posts here, from time to time. I can’t seem to wean the one from the other….oh well, I tried!

Young Life Watch

The following is a quote from a forum on the Cult Education Forum Website.  You can read the whole thread here.  On page 4 of the thread, the moderator for CEF has this to say about Young Life and it’s lack of policies concerning parental consent:

biggun223:

No one here has said that Young Life is a “cult.”

Campus Crusade for Christ and Youth for Christ, are examples of evangelical religious organizations that have chosen to identify their religious agenda within their names.

“Young Life” has not.

I have interviewed both Young Life leaders and members.

I have received serious complaints from families about Young Life. The organization caused these families serious problems. The families would not have approved of their child’s involvement if fully informed from the very beginning (initial contact with their child), but they were not informed. They only found out when their child was profoundly influenced…

Keep re-blogging these posts!!!!!! Another good blog BTW. Parents SHOULD be made aware of the nature of YL. Some parents may not care. Parents involved in churches that aren’t part of the Evangelical umbrella probably aren’t going to want their kids to be involved with the “born agains”. Of course YL and most of the evangelical crowd thinks that all the members of non-evangelical churches are going to burn in the smoldering fires of hell for all eternity anyway…….

I don’t know, Freedom. I have to think about this more deeply. I’m currently part of the Episcopal church, but would not have had trouble with my kids being part of an inter-denominational group that encouraged a personal commitment to Christ when they were teenagers. I myself have been involved with more conservative evangelical churches, and still attend one with my husband, although I cannot fully agree with all their doctrinal convictions.

It does seem to me that the term “born-again Christian” is redundant. All Christians have been born from above. Christ comes to us in our baptism even as infants.I think the journey and life of faith begins very early. It is sad if people are judging someone’s salvation and spirituality based on denominational preference.

I do agree that parents should be informed that Young Life is a faith-based explicitly Christian organization, and should give consent for their children to be involved.

i”m just not certain that they should be thought of us a cult, though.

If they don’t want people to wonder whether they are a cult, they should stop using tactics common to cults.
